It is a great way to get in shape and easier on the joints than many other sports. There are many opportunities for bicycling adventures in Middle Tennessee.  For the seasoned, intermediate and beginner bicyclist, we've got it all! Including leisurely rides on the Greenways, rip roaring mountain bike trails, BMX track, BMX trick, speed & distance riding and racing.  Get out for a bicycle ride!.

Bicycling & Conservation go hand in hand! Bicyclers help with Tennessee's Conservation by riding dry trails, staying on the path, recycling, observing and reporting environmental disturbances, adopting a trail, removing exotic plants and watching out for wildlife.

Liesure Riding
You can find the fearless at several BMX & skate  parks around Middle Tennessee. It takes hours of practice to accomplish some of the maneuvers you can see at these parks. There is a nice outdoor track at Hamilton Creek Recreation on J. Percy Priest Lake. Even if you're not into this sport, it is worth a trip just to see and a great opportunity for photographers to capture some great action shots. Safety is key in this sport, so gear up with pads, gloves & a helmet! Check our BMX page!
Yeah, that's me, a novice bicycler. But getting better. Actually I thought I would only get 20 or 30 miles and call for a rescue. I took my time, enjoyed the sights and listened to Norah Jones on my iPod. It was fantastic! And I actually made it over 60 miles the first day! Totally self sufficient with nearly 400 lbs (including myself) of weight on those tires, the whole trip was questionable. Springtime on The Trace!
Competition thrives in this style of biking, both team and individual. There are quite a few distance riders here in Middle Tennessee and they get quite serious. Some cover over 100 miles in a day. We have alot of bike routes around Music City and there are clubs and pros to learn from. Check out our Speed & Distance page.......
Nothing ruins a good trail ride like litter!
"When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting & so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind & focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart."  ~Diane Ackerman

The Bicycle
In 1839, Kirkpatrick Macmillan, a Scottish blacksmith, created a machine with iron rims, wood wheels, a forked frame & a pair of treadles to transmit foot power to the rear wheel. It is considered the first true bicycle but was not popular. In 1861, French inventor Pierre Michaux and his son Ernst constructed the first successful bicycle with pedals on the front wheels.

Where's Your Bicycle?
This sport is quite an adventure! Pure adrenalin rush That will sharpen your hand-eye-foot-brain co-ordination and put it to the test! There some great trails in Middle Tennessee. One favorite is the Hamilton Creek Mountain Bike Trail on J. Percy Priest Lake off of Bell Road. This is fairly serious bike trail and you will find some experienced folks at the trail head. For more information on this style of bicycling, check out our page on Mountain Bike Trail Riding............
The fairly new Stones River Greenway in Hermitage offers a 2.9 mile paved path from J. Percy Priest Dam to Kohl's parking lot on Lebanon Rd. This is an awsome ride! Mostly level with a couple of challenging hills. Eventually the Stones River Greenway will continue on down the Stones River to meet up with Two Rivers Park and cross over the Cumberland River to connect with the Shelby Bottoms Greenway. I've noticed alot of activity downstream from Kohl's trailhead recently. Hybrid Road Bike & Leisurely Rides
