Boating & Conservation

Green TNBoaters and Nature fit together like a hand in a glove. There is a bond between a boater and their environment, that only a water traveler can appreciate. However, some forms of boating can be a burden to the lakes and rivers. While sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and kayaking are very friendly to the environment, boats that use motors can be hazardous. It is important to maintain your boat and prevent pollution. Preventing pollution can be as simple as using good maintenance practices and less toxic products. It is a way to keep the environment clean, promote healthy fish & cut environmental cleanup costs. So please - 1) Practice Clean Fueling 2) Tune & Maintain Engines 3) Keep oil absorbent pads in the bilge & a containment pan or tray under the engine. 4) Inspect and fix small leaks. 5) Inspect Hoses Regularly. 6) Use hull paints that are nontoxic. 7) Don't Litter the Lake. 8) Pack it in-Pack it out.

Boating Safety

Boat Wreck Photo"Safety" is the key to any and all successful boating adventures. This should be on your mind as you prepare to take your family and friends out on the water. Be sure to check our Boating Safety Page and watch the BOAT WRECK VIDEOS. And always make sure you are prepared for the unexpected before you leave the shoreline.

What do you think happened to this boat, seen at Vivrett Creek on Percy Priest Lake?  Rock? Stump? No Plug? Too fast? Think the fuel leaked into the lake? Think they were prepared?
