Take Action? Hard to do, I know. I still struggle, but getting better. It has to become part of your routine. Start out easy. Just make one trip a month to the recycle location nearest you to drop off paper, aluminum & plastic. It's a good way to get started. There are other levels of action below and more to come.
  Description
Recycle everything: newspapers, glass, cans, plastic, cardboard, etc.
Don't use electrical appliances when you can easily do by hand, such as opening cans. (makes you stronger & saves money)
Turn your heat down, and wear more clothing. (saves money)
Donate used items to charities instead of sending them to the land fill.
Store food in re-usable containers instead of foil or plastic wrap.
Keep your car tuned up and your oil changed. Carpool when possible
and use public transit whenever possible.
Buy a car that is more fuel-efficient and produces lower emissions.
Turn down the heat and water heater before you leave for vacation.(saves money)
Recycle Christmas Trees they can be turned into mulch.
Recycle your engine oil, keep tires properly inflated and your wheels aligned.
Use cold water when washing clothes.
Start a compost pile, pull weeds instead of using herbicides and only use organic fertilizers.
Ride your bicycle every chance you get, to the store or the park.
Use dishes, glasses and cups instead of disposible dishes & cups.
Avoid buying food and products that are heavily packaged. Plastic & styrofoam do not recycle. Buy paper instead of plastic if you must buy disposables.
Think before buying "disposable" products. These end up in landfills.
Turn off the lights, TV, & electrical appliances when you are not in a room.
Stay away from styrofoam, it is hazardous to the environment & made at the expense of important natural resources.
Buy locally grown food and locally made products when possible.
Buy energy-efficient appliances.
Use a wash cloth or rag instead of paper towels.
Use scrap paper for notes to yourself and others, Print on both sides of the paper, and re-use envelopes and file folders.
Buy from local fruit & vegetable stands, encourage them to sell organic items.
Get cloth shopping bags to use at the grocery store instead of plastic & paper.
Support local conservation organizations and encourage family, friends, and neighbors to save resources.
Get re-useable grocery bags! Krogers & Publix sell them & gives back $.04 every time you use one. Forget using paper & plastic altogether!

Change up your shopping habits! Put back that item that is "overloaded" with packaging. Buy products that are recyclable in packaging that's recyclable.
Examin your life and find ways to reduce, re-use and recycle. It will take a little effort, but the satisfaction of being responsible for your existance will be worth it.
