Hiking in Nashville & Middle Tennssee!
Hiking & Conservation
Most hikers have a unique connection to the environment!
Often visiting locations rarely seen by others, hikers help with conservation by reporting enviro concerns seen from the trail, adopting a trail and the road they take to reach the trail. Plan a quick clean up on your next hike. Besides recycling, re-using & reducing, hikers can remove exotic plants and protect the wildlife living in those areas.
Hiking Resources
Tennesseans have been blessed when it comes to hiking! With level lowlands in the west, hill country in the center and mountains in the east, we've got it all. And some excellent scenery to go with it. Hiking can be a one hour trek through many local park trails, a weekend juant through the Cumberland Plateau or a month long adventure on the Appalachian Trail. It all starts with that first step, so plan up, gear up & get out there!

Walking is good for solving problems - it's like the feet are little psychiatrists. Pepper Giardino
There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo Even a bicycle goes too fast.

"A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world." ~Paul Dudley White
It's late October, early morning and the trees have already peaked but still hold color. You step out of your vehicle at Montgomery State Park and take a deep breath of that sweet Autumn air. There's something special about this time of year. It's a little chilly, but you are prepared. You're sporting brand new hiking boots, your favorite fall jacket and a freshly loaded, well packed backpack. You and three of your friends are off for a overnight hiking trip on the 11.7 mile trail. Everyone double checks their gear, you turn towards the trail and off you go. Not 20 feet into the trail, you notice a Barred Owl sitting half way up an old oak tree right before she leaps into the air to disappear into the forest. "Too cool", you mumble, as you watch the flight. It's a great morning, the ground is nearly as colorful as the trees from fallen leaves, the birds are chirping and squirrels are busy hording for the upcoming winter. As you aproach one of three lakes in the park, you notice two deer near the bank, so you stop and take a few photos. The group takes a drink then continues on. In no time at all, you've made it to the shelter where you will spend the night. Everyone drops their gear and starts exploring the area. You hear the unmistakable sound of the Pileated Woodpecker banging away at a tree nearby, so you grab your camera and head off to capture his photo. Evening approaches and a campfire is lit. The four of you sit down for a bite to eat. After 27 jokes, four scary stories and six "how to save the planet" ideas, you decide to hit the sack. 'Good day, have to do this more often." you think to yourself, as you nod off......
