Hunting in Tennessee A tradition for many generations
Hunters & Conservation
Hunters go with conservation like peanut butter and jelly. The very purchase of a hunting license helps TWRA wildlife management. By supporting organizations like the National Turkey Federation or Ducks Unlimited is one way hunters help with conservation. Another way is recycling amo casings & arrows, hunting only for food, adopting a natural habitat, look out for poaching, reducing, re-using, recycling and passing on the natural respect for the wilderness that hunters inheret from their hunting adventures!
Wild Turkeys make tremendous come back!
In 1951, only one Wild Turkey was harvested in Tennessee during hunting season. And you were hardpressed to even see one in the wild. Thanks to turkey hunters, the TWRA and organizations like the Wild Turkey Federation, Turkeys are now a common sight again. With relocation programs and education the Wild Turkey is beginning to thrive. "Thanks" to everyone involved! Turkeys have very keen eyesight and quickly dissappear when predators are close. Hunters know that speaking their language is the key to a succesful hunt. Learning to "talk turkey".
The resident hunters in this state are well known for their tracking, scouting & hunting skills. Wild life is managed and protected in Tennessee and strict rules & regulations apply to every game species, with good reason, so know what, where & when you're hunting! A must read is the TWRA (Tennessee Wildife Resources Agency) Hunting Regulations booklet. It has all the answers. Send us your hunting photos!

Bow Hunters Gear Up!
Archery season opened on September 22nd! Every bowhunter in Tennessee starts getting the urge to hit the archery range about mid summer. Its like a natural reaction, rather than the knowledge of the upcoming hunting season. Caused by the dwindling daylight hours or maybe the smell of the forest at this time of year. Who knows? They will start filling the parking lots at the local archery ranges, tuning their bows and their skills, as they wait for opening day to arrive. Bow hunting for White-tailed Deer is quite an adrenalin rush!

Buck Fever Approaches
Deer hunting in Tennessee has been a tradition for many generations. Resident hunters take this time of year very seriously, as their families can tell you. From scouting and tracking the deer in pre-season right up to the seasons end, these folks are deer hunters & everyone knows it. They are well known for scheduling days off from work for the opening week, way in advance. These people seem to be of the highest quality, with their respect for nature, their skill as outdoorsmen and their over all ability in knowing their prey.

Small game ussually refers to rabbits & squirels. This type of hunting is where most hunters begin. Fathers teach their sons & daughters the do's & don'ts of hunting. Small game hunting has put dinner on the table for many years, escpecially during hard times. One things for sure, hunters will always be able to provide for their family. There are many opportunities for small game hunting in Middle Tennessee. A state hunting license is required for all hunting and those born before 1980 must complete a Hunters Education Course in order to recieve a license.

Make Hunger Your Next Target!
More than 11% of Tennessee’s children and 19% of the elderly go to bed hungry. Hunters for the Hungry is a program of the Tennessee Wildlife Federation in cooperation with the TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency). Through this program, hunters and meat processors fight hunger by providing properly prepared venison to food banks and soup kitchens across the state.

"Summer was fun, Fall is here, Let's go out and kill a deer."
Ted Nugent
"In a civilized and cultivated country wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen. the excellent people who protest against all hunting, and consider sportsmen as enemies of wild life, are ignorant of the fact that in reality the genuine sportsman is by all odds the most important factor in keeping the larger and more valuable wild creatures from total extermination."
Theodore Roosevelt 1905
